Brewing Potions in Minecraft
In Minecraft, brewing refers to the process of creating Splash Potions and Potions, by putting together various ingredients into water bottles setup on to a Brewing Stand. Every potion’s manufacturing process starts with a water bottle, the Glass Bottle is then filled at a water source or from your Cauldron.

Once you setup your glass bottle on top of a stand, the next step is to create what is known as an Awkward Portion, by putting Nether Wart right on top of the water bottle. Then various potions are made from putting together secondary ingredients and adding it to the Awkward Potion that you’ve created. The effects of the potion can then be altered by adding tertiary ingredients. Generally adding Redstone should increase the life of the potion, and adding Glowstone should increase its potency, lastly you can corrupt the potion by adding Fermented Spider Eye. When gunpowder is added to any potion it is converted into a Splash Potion, meaning that the potions can be used as weapons.

Base Ingredients
These are defined as starting points for all the potions. The primary ingredient here is Nether Wart, which is added to water bottles, something which is required to make all of the potions. All the other base ingredients allow for variations of their weakness. The base ingredients are:

Nether Wart: when it is added results in Awkward Potion.

Glowstone Dust: Makes a Thick Potion.

Redstone Dust: When added makes mundane potion.

Fermented Spider Eye: Results in potion of weakness.

Secondary Ingredients
When secondary ingredients are added they imbue the Awkward Potion with a special effect but will not alter the effective duration or the intensity of the potion. When these ingredients are added directly to the Water Bottle it will result in a Mundane Potion except for fermented spider eye.

Magma Cream: Creates a fire resistant potion.

Sugar: This adds speed.

Glistering Melon: Results in instant health.

Spider eye: Makes a poison potion.

Ghast Tear : Results in regeneration

Blaze power: Adds strength to the potion.

Fermented Spiders Eye: Adds weakness.
